GUITAR & BASS magazine (March 07) have MATT SCHOFIELD in their TOP 10 BRITISH BLUES GUITARISTS OF ALL TIME. In the company of such luminaries as Eric Clapton and Peter Green, he is also the youngest by far!!
They say “…some of the most intense, smoking solos since Howlin’ Wolf’s Hubert Sumlin first walked into Chess studios……add a switchblade-sharp approach to playing slow blues that very few achieve, and you realise why the guy’s just so damn hot.”

Matt Schofield's "The Trio, Live" and "Siftin' Thru Ashes" and Ian Siegal's "Meat & Potatoes" receive the highest rating of any living British artist in the new PENGUIN BOOK OF BLUES RECORDINGS. With a clean sweep of 4 stars (excellent) for each of these CDs it puts Matt and Ian in the top echelon of contemporary Blues artists. Well done guys!

VINTAGE GUITAR, USA: "Julien Kasper again proves he is one of the finer rock guitar
instrumentalists around. He’s got great chops and feel and unquestionable tone. In fact, the sounds of the guitars are damn near perfect. And best of all, the compositions here are well-written. That’s usually a major problem for records like this - without good songs it doesn’t matter how good you play.
This disc covers a lot of musical ground. “The JB Groove” delivers as per its title with slinky chord work a la Jimmy Nolan mixed with biting leads and fat tone in the solos. “All of the Years” is a jazz-tinged ballad with a hint of Jeff Beck. The changes are just a little off kilter (in a good way) and volume swells add to the atmosphere.
“Jacket Full of Bees” is a fusion tune in the best sense of the word, with elastic solos and a composition that’s both hummable and memorable. The title cut is a walking blues that gets a unique take, while “I am a Centuar” should get an award for Goofiest Song Title of the Year. The tune itself is a marvel - a light, bluesy funk laced with chimey rhythm guitars and and well-placed wah. After a couple of
minutes Kasper enters with tone that would make Eric Johnson smile before it comes back down. A surefire frontrunner on this year’s instrumental list. - John Heidt, Vintage Guitar, September 2006

First review of "THE BLACK ALBUM."
MOJO - July 06 : "UK debut of this California band. The dark drama of Mastro’s singing and harp playing and Dave Melton’s guitar can recall the early Paul Butterfield Band, while the cramped recording ambience conjures up the 50s storefront studios of Chicago. Original material is judiciously mixed with genre standards. This hugely promising band hits Europe this summer – catch them if you can."
The band will be back in Europe in November.

First review of JULIEN KASPER BAND "THE NEW IMPERIAL" -
""Kasper's playing is authoritative and adventurous. With forays into jazz phrasing and high-octane blues, his melodic attack combines equal parts of Jeff Beck and Hendrix channeled through monumental tone." GUITARIST magazine.

This review of Siftin Thru Ashes from the LA Daily News (Fred Shuster, Los Angeles):
“We've been swamped with pretty-boy blues pretenders for years. But the UK's Schofield is head and shoulders above that herd………………”
“Blues soloing is a language of phrasing, and Schofield speaks it unusually well.”

Great reviews keep coming in.
MOJO in their Pick of The Month review of Ian Siegal's Meat & Potatoes: "Grounded in tradition, airborne by imagination, this is one of the most inventive Blues recordings ever made by a British artist."
And MOJO again on Matt Schofield's Siftin' Thru Ashes: "Impressive. Like a Robben Ford with balls, Schofield displays range, chops and taste." Both albums get a four star 'Brilliant' rating.
Paul Jones (BBC Radio 2) was very complimentary about Matt Schofield in his 'pick of the year' show, aired Dec. 29: “One of the brightest hopes we have today. I think it’s time he became a big star.”
The American magazine, Blues Revue: “Even at this early point in his career, Schofield is the entire package: a singer with range and soul, and a guitarist who delivers with devastating tone and superb dynamics."

Matt Schofield’s SIFTIN THRU ASHES was THE INDEPENDENT’S Jazz & Blues CD of the week (29/10/05). That mighty chunk of praise joins a four star rating in GUITARIST magazine and excellent reviews in the Dutch media.
In Holland, Siftin’ went in to the MANIA TOP 30 chart while OOR, the country’s leading music magazine, waxed lyrical about the CD.
“it just doesn’t get better than this” is what BLUES MATTERS magazine said in their review of Siftin’ and the LIVE AT THE JAZZ CAFÉ cd’s.
